Wastezon
Operations Support Fellow
About the Organization
Wastezon is a Rwanda-based cleantech social enterprise transforming e-waste into opportunity. Its vision is a circular, inclusive digital economy where affordable technology and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. Wastezon refurbishes discarded smartphones and laptops, extending their lifespan while reducing harmful waste. Our core innovation lies in combining AI-powered material identification through a proprietary mineralogy laser scanner with community-driven collection and distribution networks. Beyond products, Wastezon delivers access. Through flexible payment models and local agents, low-income households can afford reliable devices and build digital skills. So far, Wastezon has processed over 1,400 tons of e-waste and provided affordable devices to more than 35,000 households across Rwanda. By linking technology, data, and grassroots systems, we are redefining how emerging markets tackle e-waste, digital inclusion, and climate resilience at scale.
