Community-Building Fellow

About the organization:

Terraformation is committed to addressing climate change through the power of native forest restoration. Our portfolio of high-quality projects is designed to restore forests that will remove high quantities of carbon, renew ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and create sustainable long-term community income and benefits. Our project teams have planted over 5 million biodiverse and native trees, restored nearly 2,000 hectares, and supported 68 forestry projects across 18 countries.

Our innovative approach not only equips local forestry teams with training, technology, and access to capital, but also empowers businesses to be a part of the solution to climate change. By funding our projects, businesses can directly address climate change, meet climate and net zero commitments, and enhance corporate sustainability initiatives.

Terraformation’s mission-driven global team, which includes experts in forestry science, carbon markets, operations management, and project finance, demonstrates how diverse backgrounds drive innovation and create significant impact.

Fellowship Description:

Terraformation restores native forests to address climate change, support biodiversity, and create economic opportunities for local communities. Our tree subscription program helps individuals directly support reforestation, deepen their climate literacy, and feel meaningfully connected to long-term restoration impact.

As a Community Building Intern, you’ll help design and strengthen the community experience around our monthly tree subscription program—from shaping member engagement and storytelling to building spaces where subscribers can learn, connect, and take action together. You will:

- Support planning, launching, and iterating community touchpoints (e.g., onboarding emails, monthly newsletters, discussion prompts, digital meetups, etc.)
- Draft community updates, highlight subscriber stories, and identify opportunities to celebrate participation and milestones.
- Assist in moderating online spaces (e.g., subscriber community forum or group), surfacing themes, questions, and engagement insights.
- Research community-building best practices—especially within climate action, membership programs, and purpose-driven subscription models—and recommend formats Terraformation can pilot.
- Compile observations, light analytics, and audience insights to inform program strategy and improve subscriber retention and connection.

Qualifications:

- A good match for students studying Communications, Marketing, Environmental Studies, Community Development, Sociology, Sustainability, or Public Relations.
- Interest in community engagement, climate storytelling, grassroots action, or member-based programs.
- Clear writing skills and an approachable, human-centered communication style.
- Curiosity about how people form habits, stay engaged, and connect around shared values.
- Comfort facilitating conversation threads, summarizing themes, and uplifting diverse voices.
- Ability to stay organized across light project management tasks and engagement cycles.
- Bonus: Experience with community platforms (e.g., Circle, Slack, Discord, or similar); basic design tools (Canva/Figma)
