About the organization:
Social Capital Initiatives (formerly Asia Initiatives) is a registered 501(c)(3) located in New York, with additional chapters in Tokyo and London. Founded in 2000, the organization aims to promote sustainable development for underserved communities, with a particular focus on women and their families in India, Ghana, Taiwan, Greece, Kenya, and the US.
SCI has worked in close collaboration with local partners to fund over 200 micro credit banks, establish 40 village knowledge centers and support education and technology initiatives. Its partners include governments, non-profit organizations and corporations. SCI has also innovated the concept of Social Capital Credits (SoCCs) to multiply the impact of every development dollar.

Fellowship Description:
Social Capital Initiatives is seeking a creative and driven Social Media Intern to support our communications and digital outreach strategy. This intern will play an important role in showcasing our grassroots initiatives and engaging global audiences across platforms. Responsibilities will include creating compelling content across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, as well as managing social media calendars, tracking engagement metrics, and supporting digital campaigns that align with our mission of social and environmental justice. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to purpose-driven storytelling in a global development context.
Job Responsibilities:
The Intern will have a hands-on role in supporting Social Capital Initiatives operations. They will report directly to the SCI senior staff. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Content Development & Scheduling:
Create and curate engaging posts, graphics, and short-form videos tailored to each platform
Draft captions and schedule posts using content calendars to maintain consistency
Ensure all content aligns with Social Capital Initiatives’ tone, mission, and branding
Platform & Community Management:
Manage daily activity on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook
Engage with followers by responding to comments, messages, and tags
Support growth by following relevant accounts and engaging with partner organizations
Campaign Support:
Contribute creative ideas and content for campaigns and events via Mailchimp and Meta Business Suite
Assist in crafting digital narratives that highlight impact stories from the field
Coordinate with internal teams to gather program updates and visuals
Learning Outcomes:
Gain hands-on experience in managing multi-platform social media for a mission-driven organization.
Learn to create content that aligns with brand identity and drives audience engagement.
Develop skills in campaign planning, digital storytelling, and community engagement.
Build competency in using analytics tools to measure performance and optimize strategy.
Deepen understanding of how social media supports advocacy, fundraising, and impact visibility in the nonprofit sector.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently graduated from an institution
Experience creating engaging captions, graphics, reels, and short-form videos
Proficiency with major platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook); knowledge of platform analytics and trends is a plus
Experience using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or video editing apps (e.g., CapCut, iMovie)
Experience using marketing automation tools like Mailchimp, Meta Business Suite, etc.
Ability to manage and schedule content, meet deadlines, and support campaign rollouts
Passion for social justice, gender equity, sustainability, or community development
Time Commitment: 28 hours / week
