About the Organization
Social Capital Initiatives (formerly Asia Initiatives) is a registered 501(c)(3) located in New York, with additional chapters in Tokyo and London. Founded in 2000, the organization aims to promote sustainable development for underserved communities, with a particular focus on women and their families in India, Ghana, Taiwan, Greece, Kenya, and the US.
SCI has worked in close collaboration with local partners to fund over 200 micro credit banks, establish 40 village knowledge centers and support education and technology initiatives. Its partners include governments, non-profit organizations and corporations. SCI has also innovated the concept of Social Capital Credits (SoCCs) to multiply the impact of every development dollar.

Fellowship Description:
We are seeking a creative and mission-driven Graphic/Web Design Intern to join our NYC team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with tools such as Wix, Canva, InDesign, and other design platforms to support SCI’s brand visibility and communications across digital platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for any student interested in international development, women’s empowerment, and global impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Design compelling visuals for our social media, website, newsletters, event materials, reports, and donor outreach
Assist in updating and maintaining the SCI website
Develop templates and visual assets consistent with SCI’s brand and mission
Edit videos or create animated graphics for social media campaigns
Create graphics and visual narratives for key initiatives like SoCCs and the Annual Gala
Support special design requests for partner communications or donor presentations
Learning Outcomes:
Build a robust, mission-driven design portfolio with real-world impact
Gain hands-on experience working on cross-functional nonprofit initiatives
Contribute to strategic communication efforts aligned with the UN SDG
Deepen understanding of how visual storytelling advances social change and empowerment
Qualifications:
Proficiency in Wix, Canva, Adobe InDesign, or other graphic/web design tools
Experience with video editing platforms
Passion for social justice, women’s rights, and sustainable development
Ability to manage multiple design projects with attention to detail and deadlines
Excellent communication and collaborative skills
Time Commitment: 30 hours / week
