Fellowship Description: 

GHR is seeking applicants for a part-time position to support activity expansion for GHR’s greenhouse gas and short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) inventory analyses. The intern will conduct targeted scientific literature reviews and curate emission factors for GHGs and SLCPs (including, but not limited to: black carbon (BC), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulfur oxides (SOx) across selected activities. The product of this internship will be an Excel workbook for use by GHR staff conducting calculations for footprint clients. 


Key Responsibilities: 

- Literature Review & Data Gathering: Systematically review publicly available resources and peer reviewed literature to compile regional and national emission factors for GHGs and SLCPs for activity categories specified in active GHR products. 

- Data Formatting for Integration: Format emission factors and accompanying metadata into Excel-based reporting tools. Document provenance, citation details, and any transformation steps to support auditability. 

- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with the GHR team and to validate data and integration requirements. Prepare concise briefs and translate technical findings into practical recommendations. 


Qualifications: 

- Coursework or experience in environmental science/engineering, atmospheric science, sustainability, or related fields. 

- Experience conducting scientific literature reviews (e.g., search strategy design, source evaluation, synthesis) 

- Familiarity and comfort using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to accelerate research, synthesis, and compilation 

- Familiarity with the concept of emission factors and their application to emissions quantification. 

- Familiarity with common emissions reference materials and inventories. 

- Data management skills, including comfort with Excel spreadsheets, careful attention to units, conversions, and clear documentation practices (citations, versioning, assumptions, and limitations). 

- Excellent written communication; ability to translate technical findings into concise guidance. 

- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently within defined timelines. 


Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
