Social Media & Copywriting Fellow

About the Organization:

Oorja is an award-winning social enterprise operating in Uttar Pradesh, India. We are on a mission to empower 1 million farmers globally by 2035 with the agricultural solutions they need to sustainably increase their income and quality of life. We are a Farming-as-a-Service company working at the intersection of sustainable agriculture and clean energy. Founded in 2016, Oorja aims to address the climate crisis by promoting clean solar energy in India through inclusive and affordable solar-powered irrigation solutions. Oorja leverages decentralised solar PV infrastructure to provide clean energy and climate-smart solutions that meet the needs of farmers and farming-based institutions. Our farmer-centric business models enable transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, thereby reducing carbon footprint, boosting productivity, increasing income, generating long-term savings, and enhancing the climate resilience of communities, contributing to the SDGs

Fellowship Description:

As a Social Media and Copywriting Fellow at Oorja, you will support the Communications team in producing the written content that carries our work to funders, partners, the wider climate and agriculture sector, and the general public. Oorja publishes across several channels and accounts, and a single piece of source material — a case study from the field, a new partnership, a finding from a pilot project — usually needs to be written more than once to suit where it will appear and who it is speaking to. A good deal of your work will be that adaptation: drafting, rewriting and tightening copy until it fits its format and its reader. You will write primarily for LinkedIn, and will also help us build a more consistent presence on Instagram. This role is writing-, research- and analysis-led. We are looking for a strong writer and sharp analytical thinker.

Key Responsibilities

Write and edit LinkedIn-first social media copy—including captions, opening hooks, carousel text—for Oorja's company page and team members' personal accounts, adapting tone, voice, and perspective for each audience, with occasional content for Instagram.

Build and maintain a content calendar across all publishing accounts, sequencing posts so they reinforce rather than compete with one another

Research audiences, peer organisations and sector conversations — climate tech, decentralised renewable energy, agritech, impact investing, rural livelihoods — to identify topics, angles and formats worth pursuing Test and document what works: run structured experiments on post format, hook, length, timing and call-to-action, and maintain a clear performance log the team can act on

Optimise content for discovery across both search engines and AI assistants — keyword research, clear and well-structured writing, and quotable, properly sourced claims

Repurpose Oorja's existing material — field reports, case studies, blogs, the annual report, award and media coverage — into social-first narratives

Write Instagram captions and sequence existing field photography into carousels and photo essays, working within Oorja's brand templates

Draft supporting copy as needed — newsletter sections, blog outlines, announcement text

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a programme in communications, journalism, marketing, English, development studies, environmental studies or a related field Strong written English — you will be assessed primarily on writing samples rather than on your CV

Ability to adjust tone and register for different audiences and formats

Comfortable receiving editorial feedback and willing to revise a piece several times Familiar with LinkedIn and Instagram as a reader, and curious about why some posts work and others do not

Able to read a report or dataset carefully and summarise it accurately

Organised, able to meet deadlines and work independently across time zones

Sector understanding is strongly preferred: familiarity with climate tech, clean energy, agritech, smallholder agriculture, rural livelihoods or the wider impact and development sector — particularly in India or South Asia — and an understanding of who we are speaking to, including funders, impact investors, ecosystem partners, sector peers and prospective talent

Bonus Skills:

Any prior writing for a publication, student newspaper, society or organisation/ Experience writing for or alongside founder and executive personal brands

Basic familiarity with SEO or with social media analytics

Basic Canva familiarity, sufficient to lay copy into existing brand templates

Short-form video scripting for Instagram Reels or similar projects

Time Commitment: 30 hours per week
