The National Indian Carbon Coalition (NICC) serves as a trusted, tribal-led partner and a resource to Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities. NICC cultivates holistic systems projects that strengthen Indigenous land stewardship, promote measurable resiliency, and create benefits for communities to thrive. The work is guided by the development of high-quality, high-integrity nature-based climate solutions that restore natural ecosystems, increase access to alternative resources, and maximize climate resilience through decarbonization.

Fellowship Description: 

Traditional Ecologic Knowledge (TEK) Research Fellow to: 

1) Assist NICC in national, open-sourced TEK inventory; 

2) Follow-up analysis of NICC TEK initiative completed to date; 

3) Suggest design features of TEK integration with the Tribal Carbon & Co-Benefit Hub (https://tribalcobenefits-iltf.hub.arcgis.com/); 

4) Assist in TEK GIS data-layer to the extent possible; and 

5) Other, as Research Fellow recognizes opportunities. 

Qualifications: 

1) Passion for Tribal & Indigenous TEK & its use in support of Tribal & non-tribal peoples' relationship to Mother Earth; 

2) Ethical awareness & technical knowledge of TEK in relationship to Tribal sovereignty & cultural fulfillment; 

3) Efficient & effective, independent web-based research skills & motivation; 

4) Prefer basic GIS literacy & application to TEK context, but not required; and 5) Prefer Tribal enrollment and/or descendancy of the applicant, but not required. 

Time Commitment: 10-20 hours per week. Flexible.
