About the Organization:

Oorja is an award-winning social enterprise operating in Uttar Pradesh, India. We are on a mission to empower 1 million farmers globally by 2035 with the agricultural solutions they need to sustainably increase their income and quality of life. We are a Farming-as-a-Service company working at the intersection of sustainable agriculture and clean energy. Founded in 2016, Oorja aims to address the climate crisis by promoting clean solar energy in India through inclusive and affordable solar-powered irrigation solutions. Oorja leverages decentralised solar PV infrastructure to provide clean energy and climate-smart solutions that meet the needs of farmers and farming-based institutions. Our farmer-centric business models enable transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, thereby reducing carbon footprint, boosting productivity, increasing income, generating long-term savings, and enhancing the climate resilience of communities, contributing to the SDGs

Fellowship Description:

As a UI/UX and Web Experience Intern at Oorja, you will lead a rethink of oorjasolutions.org. Our website is our most important owned channel — the destination for traffic generated by our social media, media coverage, awards and funder outreach As the organisation has grown, so has the site, and we are now looking at how to make it work harder for the very different audiences that visit it. You will work on a WordPress site built with Elementor, supporting the Communications team through an audit of the current site, a proposed redesign of its structure, and the design of key pages within Oorja's existing brand. Where time and your own skills allow, you will build selected pages on a staging environment. This suits someone who wants to see a project through from research to design, and who is as interested in why a page is structured a certain way as in how it looks.

You will report to a supervisor in the Communications team and review work with them regularly.

Key Responsibilities :

Audit the current site: navigation, page hierarchy, duplicated content, mobile experience, page load performance, and accessibility

Map how Oorja's different audiences — funders and investors, institutional clients, field partners, media, job applicants — move through the site, and identify where the current structure works against them

Propose a revised information architecture, and produce sitemaps and wireframes for review

Design high-fidelity page mockups in Figma within Oorja's existing brand system Support technical discoverability: heading structure, metadata, internal linking, and a review of the sitemap

Build approved designs on a staging environment in WordPress and Elementor

Set up basic analytics to establish a baseline, so that the effect of any changes can be measured

Compile a site hygiene checklist — plugin inventory and versions, backup configuration, SSL, form and login settings — and hand a prioritised list to Oorja and its hosting provider

Document design decisions so that the Communications team can maintain the site afterwards

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a programme in design, computer science, digital media or a related field Portfolio showing UI/UX work, including at least one sitemap or set of wireframes rather than finished visuals alone (required) Working knowledge of Figma Some hands-on experience with WordPress; any experience with Elementor is a strong advantage

Understanding of responsive design and accessibility basics

Willing to work within an existing brand system rather than replacing it

Able to run lightweight user research — a handful of simple task-based testing, a look at analytics

Eye for detail, able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision, open to feedback

Bonus Skills:

HTML and CSS for customisation beyond Elementor's defaults Familiarity with technical SEO and basic WordPress maintenance and security practices

Experience designing multilingual sites — Oorja's site runs in English and Hindi

Time Commitment: 30 hours per week
