Farzana Afroz
Farzana Afroz is a Ph.D. student in Geography and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Oklahoma. Her work focuses on GeoAI, remote sensing, GIS, and geospatial big data to better understand climate, land dynamics, ecosystems, and environmental change. Prior to joining her Ph.D. program, she earned her M.S. in Geography from Oklahoma State University, where her research examined hydroclimatic variability and its impacts on vegetation health across the Southern Great Plains. She has contributed to NASA- and NSF-funded research projects involving wildfire potential, satellite-based vegetation analysis, floodwater extent, and climate resilience. She also worked as a GIS expert and urban planner in Bangladesh, supporting land use planning, environmental assessment, river dynamics analysis, and sustainable development projects. As a WILDCOAST Geospatial Analyst Fellow, Farzana is excited to support the U.S. Wetlands program by processing diverse spatial datasets and applying geospatial modeling to advance environmental protection and restoration. Through the Constellations Fellowship, she hopes to strengthen her ability to translate spatial data into practical tools for climate resilience, wetland restoration, ecosystem conservation, and community-centered environmental decision-making.
