Vrashabh Kapate
Senior Manager, Global Dairy Sector at Environmental Defense Fund
Vrashabh Kapate is a climate and sustainability leader at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), where he leads corporate engagement across global food systems. His work focuses on translating science, economics, and policy into scalable, real‑world action with multinational food and agriculture companies, with an emphasis on dairy methane.
Vrashabh has conceived and led several first‑of‑their‑kind industry platforms, including the award‑winning Dairy Methane Action Alliance (DMAA), a global coalition of leading dairy and food companies. Through this work, he has driven adoption of the first corporate dairy methane inventories, disclosure frameworks, and action plans, helping companies move from commitments to implementation. He also leads EDF’s work on the Resilient Dairy Alliance in India, which brings together leading dairy companies to address mitigation, climate resilience, and smallholder livelihoods. His portfolio spans methane accounting and disclosure, climate risk, innovative financing mechanisms, and regional engagement across the U.S., EU, China, and India.
Earlier in his career, Vrashabh led municipal solid waste programs in India, focused on large‑scale systems and operational solutions, giving him a cross‑sector perspective on methane reduction and real‑world deployment challenges. He comes from a farming family and brings prior experience in finance, nonprofit management, and government consulting.
Vrashabh holds a Master of Public Affairs from the University of California, Berkeley, with a certificate in Food Systems, and a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
