Ilissa Ocko

Senior Climate Scientist at Spark Climate Solutions

Dr. Ilissa Ocko is a Senior Climate Scientist at Spark Climate Solutions, where she focuses on methane and other super pollutants. She is also a Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). During the Biden Administration, Ilissa served as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate at the Department of State, helping accelerate global methane action. Prior to that, she held the Barbara Streisand Chair of Environmental Studies at the Environmental Defense Fund, where she led the climate science team in advancing short-lived climate pollutant research and translating it into actionable emission-reduction strategies. An active public speaker, Ilissa's TED talk on methane has been viewed nearly 2.5 million times. Ilissa earned her Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from Princeton University, and a B.S.E. in Earth System Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan.
