Britt Groosman

Senior Vice President of Agriculture, Water and Food at the Environmental Defense Fund

Britt Groosman is Senior Vice President of the Agriculture, Water and Food focus area at Environmental Defense Fund, where she focuses on protecting food, water and shelter in a changing climate.

With her team, she develops solutions that are both environmentally friendly and economically practical, aiming to support a transition to more resilient agricultural systems, and better management of floods and droughts for the benefit of both people and nature.

Britt launched EDF's international efforts focused on tackling the significant climate challenge of methane emissions from agriculture. This initiative aims to raise global ambition to reduce these emissions, encourage the creation of innovative approaches, and identify ways to help farmers adopt new techniques and technologies. Through her collaborations with fishers and farmers, Britt has learned that meaningful progress toward food security, protecting livelihoods, and achieving environmental sustainability is only possible through genuine co-creation of solutions.

Britt has 30 years’ experience as a strategic leader, environmental economist and advocate working across sectors (agriculture, forestry, biodiversity, fisheries, energy) and regions (US, EU, India, China, Brazil).  Prior to EDF, Britt worked as an economist in London for over a decade.

Britt studied Economics (BA) and Law and Economics (MA) at the University of Gent, and Oxford University.
